Satnav uses beware, this road may not be suitable for you.
Geoff Rowe, Lib Dem Member for Malling Rural North East, won an assurance at yesterdays (18.10.07) County Council meeting that consideration will be given to using a new signing regime which would tell HGV lorry drivers to ignore their satnav systems when approaching unsuitable roads.
A Welsh trial will be monitored and if successful KCC may consider introducing a similar sign onto its highway network.
Geoff said "the introduction of theses signs could give some relief to constituents, especially in Ditton and Aylesford, who regularly have to suffer abuse from these 'lost' large vehicles. Many of my roads are not suitable for HGVs and lost vehicles compound the problem - so I am pleased that KCC is working to improve information provided by satnav systems in the meantime.
