The Patsy Calton award

The Women Liberal Democrats have launched a new award - the Patsy Calton award. The award aims to celebrate the contributions made to the Party by women; it commemorates the inspiring work of Liberal Democrat, Patsy Calton MP who sadly died of breast cancer in May 2005.
In May 2005 when the Lib Dems won 62 parliamentary seats, 10 were held by women. Still a very poor proportion but progress had been made. Sadly on 29th May Patsy died. Patsy's record of achievement is an inspiration to us all and WLD hope that by introducing these annual awards for a female local activist, Councillor or MP/AM/MSP/MEP, that we can not only celebrate achievements by women but also encourage more women to participate in political processes at all levels.
Patsy was a wife, a mother, a teacher, an activist, a Councillor, a Parliamentarian, and an inspiration to us all. Patsy's energy, enthusiasm and achievements truly were phenomenal, and she undoubtedly would have wanted to see other female Liberal Democrats actively involved in the Party too.
By nominating a female local activist, Councillor or MP/AM/MSP/MEP for the Patsy Calton Award it is a brilliant way for you to acknowledge the fantastic contribution that she has made to the Party, and the role that she has played in inspiring others.
Please complete and return the nomination form (link below, available from the download area of this website) by Monday 11th June 2007. The winner will be chosen by a panel from a shortlist and the award presented in Brighton at the Annual Party Conference in September 2007. There will also be an evening reception at Conference to celebrate all those short-listed.
